Hey guys,
I have a 2008 Passat 1.9 TDI. It has around 60k miles on the clock. Recently it has been quite difficult to start once the engine has fully warmed up. i.e. it needs 5-6 seconds or more of cranking to get going. Almost like that sound you get when you are trying to clear some air lock from fuel lines in a diesel engine. Cold starting is fine. Ive noticed it is also prone to just conking out for no apparent reason although this symptom is irregular.
Did a vagcom reading today;
1 Fault Found:
012295 - Camshaft Position Sensor (G40) P3007 - 000 - No Signal - Intermittent Freeze Frame: Fault Status: 00110000 Fault Priority: 0 Fault Frequency: 254 Mileage: 94264 km Time Indication: 0 Date: 2011.09.12 Time: 21:40:23
Freeze Frame: RPM: 294 /min Speed: 0.0 km/h Load: 0.0 % Voltage: 10.41 V Bin. Bits: 00101111 Idle Stabilization: 0.0°KW (no units): 32.0
I tried clearing the fault just to check and it was back again after a short drive. Can anyone give me an idea of what I should be looking for here.... I have taken out the G40 sensor as the connector (on the front of the engine) looks good as does the wiring. I dont know how to test this sensor to see if it is working correctly so I'm considering just buying a new one at the VW dealer tomorrow and giving it a try.
Would really appreciate any advice any of you guys could give me on this one. Seeminly these sensors rarely fail..... Really don't want to go down the "swap until fixed" route.
Thanks very much!!
Jim
