Citroen Berlingo Multispace - Rear suspension design - mss1tw

I was cleaning this at the weekend when I realised something was missing from the rear wheel arches - shock absorbers!

I had a look in the Haynes and it says a semi-independent trailing arm.

What's the reason for using this? If it's anything like the swinging arm on my motorbike, it means bearings to check/seize

The design is derived from the 405 and provides an excellent ride combined with minimal intrusion into the loadspace.

Bearing wear is possible at high mileages, usually evident as the wheels 'lean' inwards at the top.

Of course - no wheel arch 'humps'!

Call me Mr Observant.

Would getting it up on ramps and a good dose of ACF 50 all around help keep the bearings/moving parts sweet?

Not familiar with the 405 set up, but I would assume the bearings are fairly well sealed against the elements and therefore, whilst the application of ACF50 may make you feel good, I doubt it will penetrate to where you expect it to.

The bearings are sealed by rubber . If you can get anything past the rubber as a lubricant, it's too late. Dirt will have got in first.

Sealed for life..and it is trye.

Just carefullly clean the rubber and surrounds of all mud.. and don't attempt to move the rubber in any way.. or you WILL get dirt in..
