Strange car - sad incident - Trilogy

Fire crews from nearby Fakenham and another from Wells, police and paramedics were called after the man, driving a silver Vauxhall Anglia, received injuries to his chest, stomach, pelvis and leg.

The teenager, who was driving a pink Mini, received head injuries and was taken to the Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital with the other casualty.

In the Fakenham news today! YES "quote" Vauxhall Anglia"unquote". Nothing special about a vauxhall anglia, just an astra with a sidevalve 800 cc engine.

Hope both the people in th real accident are ok.

Agila I guess. Funny though!

Nothing strange about a Vauxhall "Agila", thousands of the things on the road, both old and current versions are re-badged Suzukis. Definitely not an Astra and definitely don't have sidevalve engines, nothings had those since the 50's.

The thread is taking the p**s out of a mis-named Vauxhall Anglia - many Ford Anglias had sidevalve engines, not getting an OHV engine until the 105E of 1959.

Sidevalve engines are still in production - the D-Motor LF26 has recently been introduced for light aircraft and a 6-cylinder variant is under development.

Sounds similar to the Ford Siesta: Sierra body and a barnstorming 957 cc engine.

I thought that was the 2.8 version of the Fiesta.

Swapping cars whilst going is very dangerous

Do I detect a truly geeky thread about to start? Think I'll start one anyway. There have been some unusual naming combinations of cars over the years, often because a particular marque is less familiar. Think of Sunbeam (Sceptre) rather than Singer on the Continent; Austin Marina in the USA; (curiously, the Morris 1100 was sold in Denmark with the name Marina, while the larger 1800 model flaunted the names Austin Windsor and Morris Monaco.) Chrysler rather than Plymouth Voyager in Europe (subsequently re-branded Chrysler when the Plymouth brand was killed off; ditto Sunbeam Gazelle and Vogue when Singer was axed.)

Any more?

Ford fitted Renault engines to Escorts sold in Sweden at one time but,at least, still called it Escort.
