Cos Skoda failed, Mini failed, despite the nightclub effect showroom, Volvo then failed, Suziki also failed.

But boy o boy when he sat in the wee A1 Audi .........................he was genuninely smitten.

But I did not see anything particularly different about it, though this was perhaps bearing in mind the price premium.

Well, if he's young, I can't see how, apart from maybe Mini, that Skoda or Volvo will appeal to him. Audi have their image right with the younger generation, most young people won't be interested in value for money, they just want to look cool. Just goes to show you that despite claiming no interest in cars, he must still feel the need to have a certain 'persona'.

What Volvo did he sit in, the C30?

Get him a ride in a Rally car. I did a couple of laps (as a passenger) in a Seat Ibiza Cupra R (I think) with a professional rally driver. She (yes -she) was utterly utterly awesome. Sideways at humingous speed. Had I been a young chap looking for a pocket rocket I'd have bought one on the spot.

BTW I think the A1 is spectacularly ugly myself.

Corax, You are absolutly on the Money, I commented to the wife that I would like to tell Mr Audi just how "right" their designers had got the design, as indeed the Son is totally uninterested in cars other than a means of transport, absolutly a necessary evil to be endured.

But Nope, merely looked at the Volvo from the outside, yes the C30, noted the handbrake was oddly located and that the car was apparently tiny inside, despite its bulk & girth.

E's a right big lad.

Faulted the Fabia sommat to do with his knee catching on the centre console/dash, its ALL about the ergonomics, not the bling appeal.

btw .....Young M..... is studing engineering at Uni & allowed that the sooner him & his mates started designing better cars the better?

PS

Our equally uninterested daughter showed a distinct preference for the Totota Yaris, to other options, despite being told the average age of the Yaris driver was 62, this was swayed by the panoramic roof and the Touch & Go system, complete with reversing camera.

A sweet touch, beautifully executed & long overdue,

btw the new Yaris does appear to be reasonably future proof? yes?

CheersM

If it has the HSD? Yes.

Oh , that's in 2012...:-)

He was right about the Volvo - a friend has one, not much room for anything other than the front two passengers.

Tell him to wait until the new MB A class appears - direct rival to the A1/1 series because MB have realised that the aspirational "yoof" don't want a small MPV, they want a hatchback, but with the interior finish of far more expensive motors.

Only you know your lad, was the badge the influence or did the sales bod tip him a wink or something so he felt more 'involved' at the showroom.

Something false about Mini showrooms, the receptionist sitting behind a high bar as if serving bottled drinks doesn't gel, Audi showrooms do feel right, their products are overpriced but come nicely packaged and from some peoples perspectives look right, i can see why youngsters would be impressed.

Did you look at the right Skoda, badged VRS, that would maybe have made a difference, indeed a Volvo R might have been impressive.

Young driver? VRS?

The only impressive thing there would be the insurance premiums....

Im going to stick him in the passenger seat of my Jag on a wet day and take roundabouts at 60mph. That'll wake him up.

Jamie,

Fair enough, if you prove to be a competent driver he will sit & enjoy the ride, if you are merely a go faster imbicile he will get out, he can usually tell the difference despite any apparent disinterest in driving, having already declined lifts, after a couple of experiences, from a couple of young drivers who fancy themsels as being good & fast, well they are 1/2 right, fast but not good in that M.......... felt unsafe & in this feeling he was almost certainly correct.

I should add that despite some parental disapproval he still drinks to excess on occassion, and accepts lifts from underemployed transsexual prostitutes (but only when drunk, and it would have been a very long walk otherwise, well apparently, I think he paid his last 5iver for the lift, it being insufficient for a taxi)

i.e. he baint a perfect bairn by any means.

cheers again

Give him a break - my mother still thinks I drink to excess and I'm in my 60's.

As long as he can separate drinking from driving when/if he gets round to it, that's what matters.

We got that sussed, his sister dont drink & he dont drive, the perfect arrangment, we keep her in a car and he gets cider vouchers, seems an equitable arrangment, in the meantime.

PS

I dont scold him as I still occassionally overdo it, though certainly less often than when I was younger, hey ..............................that was how I met his mother after all.

SWMBO thinks I drink to excess too, my ration is 3 bottles of shiraz till 31st december....But there again she sees the effects of indulgence of alcohol and drugs every day on the wards.

Neither of us like the audi or the skoda, but the yaris could be considered.

PS for jamie, once I had a jag xj40 on loan for a week and went over a hump backed bridge a bit quick, required emergency underpant transplant for me, and new front suspension for the jag.

Yaris ordered at lunchtime today, Senior Managment is sometimes/generally better at spending money that I am, though she graciously allowed me to pay the deposit.

Its nice to be needed.

It is reassuring to know there is another lady in the land who regards her husbands' income as a challenge!!!

They could be sisters, possibly seperated at birth.!!

Good luck. Concrete

3 bottles is ok - when the 1st is empty start on the 2nd and get the 1st refilled - keep the 3rd as reserve.
