Car Hire Insurance - concrete

Hello Skittles, try insure4excess or insure4carhire. I use them and a policy for annual car hire CDW and excess is about £50. It means you don't have to take the extortion rates the hire companies charge for CDW, just carry a copy of your policy with you. It make sense if hire cars a few times a year and is sometimes cheaper than a one off charge from some hire companies. Also I take an excess insurance policy. This allow me to recover any excess for any claim from car, buildings and contents policies. Last year after a claim on car insurance(her indoors had an argument with a bollard) I was able to recover my excess of £250 on my policy which cost me £30 per annum, not a bad return and some piece of mind. Best of luck. Concrete

Whatever you do, TAKE the excess waiver cover! so for a 3 day hire it will be about £30, better than having to pay a 1500 euro excess, and also photograph all marks on the car and the wheels, and if you see them when you pick up the car tell the hire agent before you leave the car park! I did this, was lucky someone was present, and all the marks were noted on the hire document, and also photgraphed everything on return, then no problems. In portugal last year the windscreen wipers were stolen, but got a cheapo pair in a supermarket and avoided having to pay. Particularly watch out for those that are on poular models like a fiat punto!

Thanks concrete for the tip especially on the axcess insurance. Used to hire loads of cars and used to get the CDW free

I am going to Portugal for a few days and hiring a car first time for ages.

Would they have chared you for stolen windscreen wipers? I had an aerial stolen while in Finland and I was not charged, this was Avis. Had number plateds nicked in Austria and again not charge by Budget. Had the whole car nicked i Glasgow and again no charge.

Sixt tried to charge me for a tiny bracket in the boot, hate Sixt, always ave me problems.

Arriing late at night so not sure if i can photograph the car
