Just thought I'd ask for the forum's opinion on this.
I have a spare tyre, it's a Goodyear NCT5, DOT code is 1402 (so the tyre is nearly 10 years old). It appears to be pretty much unused (not surprising as it is on a steel wheel -- I have bought a cheap fifth alloy so I can rotate the tyres in future).
I was under the impression that once tyres reach either 6 or 10 years old (depending on the source) they shouldn't be used any more.
So, the question is, is it safe to use? (It looks to have been stored over-inflated which should help its cause). With that in mind, do I transfer it onto the alloy and use it in rotation, dispose of it, keep it as a spare only or shunt it on eBay (yes I know the latter is slightly evil but if the tyre is OK I am tempted to let it go anyway).
It appears to be in good order.
Thanks for any advice.
