03 passat 1.9 tdi - fumes inside car - mickeybo

The owner complains of fumes in car he complains of strong like diesel fumes at idling

and whilst driving. After doing some checksfor any diesel leaks none found . Also checked sump for any diesel mixing with oil Does any 1 know of any known issues on this. Any feedback greatly appreciated Regards Mickeybo

The PD Passats have a fuel cooler underneath the car on the driver's side (more or less under the driver's seat), these can get perforated by stones. That might be weeping. Or an exhaust leak?

Run the car in re-circulate mode for a day and see if it reduces. Has the plenum chamber been cleaned and the bungs removed which they should not be, they should be cleaned only. This can cause engine compartment engine fumes to be drawn into the plenum chamber where the air it taken into A/C Unit. Check the flexi joint in the front of the exhaust. Regards Peter
