What music do the backroomers currently have in the motor?

What's in your car stereo right now? - Avant

A wonderful thing is an SD card: I've no idea what SD stands for (someone will tell me if I'm lucky) but it stores hundreds of tracks of music inside a piece of plastic little bigger than a thumbnail.

I have two of them: classical and non-classical: the last thing I was listening to was Elgar's 1st Symphony. For short journeys I turn over to Classic FM.

Just under 2 years ago I was playing a Tamla Motown compilation CD. When I tried to eject it, nothing happened. So it's still in there. It plays perfectly well, but displays "Disc Error" if I try to eject it. So mostly I listen to the radio. I have got one of those things for playing the iPOD through the radio, but I can never find a free frequency to play it on.

I had one of those FM transmitter iPod things. I found it unusable. The Note comes with a USB socket in a top glovebox so the iPod just plugs in.

In my old xtrail I have fitted a Pioneer double din all singing all dancing sat nav radio etc that has a dedicated ipod lead. THAT also plays DVD movies so that whilst waiting for SWMBO I can watch John Wayne hurtling across the Pecos or winning ww2 all by himself.

all my collection on my nokia n8, can switch to classical or rock, made it easy by just having 2 "types" and if in the mood rock on random or classical by composer, the other day was sibelius karelia suite and finlandia, but followed up with Holst, planets suite, Mars comes through the base units really well!

The 6 x CD autochanger in the car has CDs - for the grandchildren............I listen to radio 4 / radio scotland...........and not much else - snippets of radio 2 from time to time.

Looking at a new car a few weeks back they tried to extol the features of i-pod connection, in-buillt SAT-Nav etc and it was a waste 5 mins when we called a halt when I said Can I gett radio 4?

I have an old Sat Nav given to me as a present - out of date mapsbut I know where I am in 90% of Scotland finding new streets, even localy is tricky, as updated maps are years out of date. My sons all have newer cars with in-built sound systems + sat navs - the latest X6/XC60 cannot find their own home which was built 5/6 years ago.

My driver door packet and the glove compartment are filled with home-made CDs which are almost entirely classic rock, metal and a bit of punk. The current one has got some Alice Cooper, UFO and Bad Company on it. I have a DAB radio which was a present from Mr Bobbin and he installed it into my old Focus, but it doesn't fit in the Mazda as you have to remove the entire fascia instead of just a small panel. I like Planet Rock on DAB.

Otherwise, for very long journeys, I have an iPod nano on FM transmitter. I had to stop listening to Radio 2 as I found I was shouting at it.

BOBIN the above is a link for mazda 6 radio plate, cost under £15.

.just changed the radio on my 2008 Lancer, had to remove the central air vents and remove the center section of the dash. took all in all 2hrs bought the radio dash surround from the states...(better fit and half the price of the UK versions) and the radio converter wiring came from a local car hifi dealer. needed to buy sony/mitsubish wiring loom and also the steering wheel wiring cost for the wires about £20, cost for the trim £36 inc postage from the states....

means the standard mp3 radio has gone and my sony mp3 player with rear mounted usb socket on a flying lead is installed. means i have 57cds on a 4gb memory stick, so technically "whats in your stero" is nothing,,,,as I don't use cds or mp3 cds, only my memory sticks....with stuff from... ac/dc hells bells....to james blunt....all depends upon who else is in the car.....and how its gone at work......hahaaha......

Thanks Paul for looking that up. Unfortunately my car is a 2005 so it doesn't have that kind of radio fascia. I'm using this as an excuse to buy another car next year anyway ;-)

Not sure if I should be flattered at that or feel very old:)

Talking of feeling very old, I've seen both AC/DC and Quo's 21 year anniversary concerts:(

Seen Saxon, Bon Jovi, Meatloaf and Whitesnake.

Bring back Monsters of Rock at Donnington!

Pat

I saw the joint Whitesnake/Def Leppard tour a few years ago. Amazing. Monsters of Rock is gone but Download has taken its place and it's very good :-)

I'm far too old for Donnington now:)

I thought I was too old for AC/DC at Wembley 2 years ago but strangely the audience were all hanging on to the seat in front while they were headbanging, like me!

Always regret not seeing Queen, Aerosmith and Guns 'n Roses though.

Better than constant droning over pointless semantics, what the IAM do or do not do and endless ramblings about diesel reliability isnt it?!

I do not have any CDs I hardly ever put any music on as I like to drive in silence. However sometimes I have my phones MP3 player on and that has everything from Abba to Lady Gaga, Jennifer Jenkins to Toy Soldiers and even some religious songs even though I am not religious but I guess it works as despite the way I drive something keeps me safe

What music do the backroomers currently have in the motor?

Pulse radio

Whats in your car stereo right now? - Engineer Andy

Journey to/from work (stressful peak time driving): Classic FM (soothing, no high tempo stuff that keeps the heart rate low amongst all the idiots on the road at those times of the day)

Visiting friends & family (short journeys, evenings/weekends mainly - less busy on the roads): Classic FM, Magic FM or Heart FM (whatever's relaxing/I'm in the mood for)

Long trips/holidays: Good ol' 1980s/90s pop/rock on own compilation tapes (yep, still got a cassette player going as well as a CD in the car) - keeping me occupied on boring motorways! I occasionally use CDs, however I've never got around to making up compilation CDs (rather defeats the object of having an MP3-playing CD unit doesn't it!), which would be useful on really long drives (less fiddling with changing over tapes or standard CDs every 45-60 mins!).

Prelude VTi: Very Best of Matt Munro. Hasn't been switched on much this year.
XJS: Frank Sinatra compilation. Beach Boys compilation. French cafe music compilation. Georgie Fame and the Blue Flames compilation. Jazz compilation. Tape: Ron Goodwin compilation. Only gets switched on when I'm cleaning or tinkering about with it and the hood is down.

I like listening to my engines...
