Hyundai i30 CRDi - Replacement/used alloys - Dingle232

I am looking for a second set of 15 inch alloys for my Hyundai i30 (2008) on which I can put some winter tyres. I haven't costed new ones at the dealers as I suspect they will be v. expensive so has anyone any ideas on where I may pick up a second hand set? Not turned up much from local scrap yards or ebay.

Googling 'i30 alloys' hasn't really turned up much so wondered if I should be looking for something else as a search string. Tyre size at the moment is 185/65 R15 - wheels are 5 stud.

Cheers

What is the offset of the wheels they should be a quite common size.I would personnally put steel rims with wheeltrims very cheap.

Use steel wheels and if possible fit a narrower tyre.

I am always confued by this. If the standard size on my car is 185/65 R15 then 'narrower' would equate to 175/65 R15 or 165...etc? Is this correct?

Presumably the wheel that takes the standard size will also take the narrower ones?

Don't take this as gospel cos i'm relying on the info offered by a new alloy wheel seller for specifications.

They are showing new alloys for the i30 as being...6.5 x 15. offset 35 to 45. PCD 5 x 114. bore 67.1.

If you have a nose at Rochford Tyres site, they have a alloy wheel fitment guide, where you can confirm these specifications, by all means have a browse there and see if they have a package to suit you and your pocket.

Then you simply find some used wheels from another Hyundai, but check other similar cars eg Kia, then search ebay or similar and find some.

Should be cheap in 15" size as most people want to go big wheels and elastic band tyres.

Many people think you should go narrower for winter fitments, it's not writ in stone on Mount Sinai, i've run two sets of winter tyres, one in 225 section, the other in 265 section, both were superb at their job.

Keeping to the correct car size does mean your insurance company won't have a fit.

Incidentally from Rochfords site your car should have 195/65 x 15 tyres not 185's, be glad if that's the case as 195/65's are probably the best bargain size out there.

edit, some Kia and Mitsubishi wheels seem to be of the same specs, there are probably others too.

Good luck hunting down wheel rims. They are rare on Ebay & Gumtree etc. Have you tried a Hyundai or Kia dealer for steel rims? Justa chance they are either not as costly as they might be or that they have fitted alloys to a steel wheeled car for a customer.

I was dead lucky getting some 15" i30 alloys for my own i30 (that normally has 16" wheels), found them on Ebay and locally too. HUK list 2 15" tyre sizes for the i30 in the handbook - either 185 or 195/65x15, although as you say, 15" shod i30's come with 185's at least in UK. Whilst they were my preferred size for winter tyres, 196/65x15's were actually slightly cheaper for me a year ago, and work astonishingly well (I ended up with Alpin A4's from Costco) - my i30 went everywhere and did not need dug out or pushed once last Winter.

To be on the safe side, ensure that the wheel bolts /nuts you have are compatible with any steel wheels you end up with, and tell your insurance company of the tyre change.

Interesting for me this. When looking for tyres I have also noticed that the 'correct' size appears to be 195/65 R15 so presumably the alloys that currently have the 185's on would also take 195's also?

I am really torn between buying a set of steelies for the winter tyres or whether to just stick a set of all weather tyres on the wheels that I have.

Thanks for the info so far - really helpful.
