Does it matter?

A MoT test certificate is valid on the day it's issued and there's a requirement to have one within the last 12 months.

it does matter if you want to sell the car with a year's MOT. You can have a car MOTed up to one month before the expiration date. If it fails you can still drive on the old one!

You can MOT a car any time you like. The one month only applies to the new MOT running from the old expiry date i.e. you can get a 13 month MOT
