Vauxhall Astra Coupe/Convertible - Tapping noise from Astra 1.8 VVT engine - Bagsy31

Hi,

I am have put a deposit on a 56/07 Astra TwinTop with a 1.8i VVT engine. To be safe I had it insepcted by an engineer last week and a tapping noise was flagged up from the engine. The report stated:

"Engine oil level - is at the minimum level on the dipstick. Noise level (cold) - upon start up there was an engine rattle, also on engine tick over at first there was an intermittent tapping. This developed into a constant tapping that continued throughout."

Could anyone suggest the cause, and whether I should continue with the purchase or ask for my deposit back.

Thanks

I would suggest hydraulic tappets. Does it have history? Have the oil changes been done regularly and on time? How many miles has it done?

Agree with PP, if this is the standard of the vehicle when presented for sale than goodness what it's care has been like in service.

Go and find one that's been looked after properly.

Edit. two months ago and the OP hasn't been back, note to self, check the date of the thread.
