1998 mk4 - volkswagon golf cab - bizzybee

hi my golf mk4 cab is making a banging rattling noise wen going over small bumps we have had the wishbone changed and also bushes checked and they r fine apparently! it is still doing this noise and no one seems to no what it is can any one please help me??

This might sound daft, but my husband's car rattled and clanged over small bumps and it turned out to be the spare wheel moving. It wasn't positioned as snugly as it might have been. Moving it got rid of the rattles.

Also might be facetious and say that I didn't think you could have a Mk 4 cabriolet? Golf fans correct me...!

Could indeed be the spare wheel or even the jack loose in the boot. If not, take it to Kwikfit or somewhere similar and ask them to put it up on the ramp and check the exhaust mountings.

I think at some point the Mark 3 cabriolet was given the Mark 4 dashboard and facelifted a bit without changing the bodyshell.

Ford Foci had a problem with exhaust heat shields that worked loose and created a disconcerting noise.

Heat shield cracked on my old Mondeo which gave it a tinny screeching noise. I parked with the front wheels on the pavement to make sort of a gap to slide under, got some big scissors and a stanley knife and cut the whole thing off.

Job done.
