Mazda MX5 - VVT Gear and Chain Premature Failure - PeterJamesDavies

Hi All,

We have a march 2007 mx5 54000 miles and always serviced by mazda at proper intervals. Car developed a rattle on cold starting one month after warranty ran out. We bought it June 2010 and had a years zoom zoom warranty. Mazda says variable valve timing gear and timing chain are worn and need replacement at a cost of over £1000. I think this is unacceptable. Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Peter, sorry no one replied to your post, I'm not able to help you but am looking for advice too. Our feb 2007 2.0L mx5 at 32800 miles has developed the same problem as yours. What was the outcome for you? Did you ge the car fixed and if you don't mind me asking how much did it cost you? Thanks for any advice, cheers Carl

I thought the MX5 had the 'B' series engine, which AFAIK is belt-drive cam.

Is the 2-litre different?
