Story in local paper reporting that Leeds City Council are paying £10775 a year to rent a Daimler to waft the lord mayor round on his civic duties, the problem is they already own a Vauxhall Omega limo for this purpose so why not use it and make a saving for the public purse,or is it a bad case of badge snobbery, no wonder we are in the.....

I quite agree, Manchester used to have a Rolls Royce for the Mayor private plate N10, but flogged it and bought a Rover instead. Since then N10 has been on quite a few cars. It would have been cheaper to have kept the Rolls going than keep paying out for expensive replacements.

Very short sighted thinking.

Funny how these mayor's etc are always the ones attacking the motorist and telling us to use a substandard bus service when they wont go anywhere in any less than Hollywood star luxury.

I suggest losing the limo privileges and firing the Chauffeur. Instead they can have access to a shared bicycle, a bus pass and a rail card (no reimbursement of any other travel expenses eg taxi's).

I foresee immediate vast improvements to public transport in this country once ALL politicians have to use them on a daily basis or walk.

I forsee vast improvements to all modes of transport, including cars once all politicians have to PAY for it themselves, not be able to claim back on expenses what the man in the street has to pay for out of his own pocket. The taxpayer has to subsidise all forms of the politicians travel as well as overpay for our own.

The incumbent Leeds Lord Mayor offered to travel by bus, but it was deemed unsuitable.

Council snubs Omega - jamie745

Then they cant complain when the rest of us rightly deem it unsuitable also. Ive never been to Leeds so i dont know what their bus network is like. Is it as bad as the rest of the country or is it really bad?

Is it true thatthere is a free car park at the house of commons? I believe that they continued to have a smoking bar long after the rest of us were denied the right to one. They really are a contemptible bunch!

Of course its free, cant expect them to PAY for anything can we?!? Which is why i take issue with the claims of the Prime Minister earing £142,000 a year salary, he doesnt earn that as salary, thats pocket money. Does he spend any of that on his accomodation/rent/mortgage? No. Does he spend any of that on his transport? No. In fact a recent study from some group of sensible statiticians which the BBC would prefer to keep hidden estimates the true cost of the Prime Minister going about his business is closer to £600,000, rather than the 142 figure. The difference is the public dont get a salary but then all living expenses picked up elsewhere, the rest of us pay our way through our salary.

The expensive number plates also not needed U1 in this case, there is nothing easier than spending the money of others.

It was deemed unsuitable due to the nature of the duties carried out by the Lord Mayor.

From my experience the Leeds buses have been excellent - I never take the car to the centre.

They are so regular I don't need a timetable as I know within a few minutes one will turn up, in the centre of town all bus stops have real time info on where the bus is which is accurate and every bus stop has a unique reference number. Text this to the mobile number on the stop and a text is received which says how far away your next bus is. I've tested it when I can see a bus coming and this too is accurate.

£4.80 for a peak time all day pass, £3.40 for an offpeak - a bargain when a city centre car park spot next to where the bus drops me off is £14 for the day.

When you've paid the £460 tax bill which i paid last week, £14 to park it becomes 'meh'.

Mayor my a***, this is our council tax they're wasting.

Sack the lot of them
