Any - Classics on the Common, and PA Cresta - RaineMan

Yesterday I made my annual trek to Harpenden’s “Classics on the Common”. With over 1000 cars, assorted trucks and buses, and a large array of motorcycles and scooters there is something for everyone. Various vehicles caught my attention but one really stood out. It was more in the realms of a custom that a classic car. Someone one had lavished thousands of hours in creating a PA Cresta Coupe using a Jaguar floorpan. The thing about this special was that it looked just right – the doors had been extended and the arches flared so that the body looked like it was made like that originally. The interior and under bonnet were also perfect. If there was a car of the show this was it!

I saw (what I thought) were a few PAs, but oddly, no PBs.

Perhaps I saw this and assumed it was another PA.

A couple of Trabants, but no Tatras.

The Amphicar made it for me.

Well worth it and the weather ensured it was rammed.

It's quite famous in Vauxhall circles: http://www.ourcustoms.co.uk/3.html and http://www.ourcustoms.co.uk/5.html

...and to top it all, it's more 'economical' than the original - 22.1 mpg vs. 21.8 mpg !

Very nicely done.

Thanks for the links Victorbox. The work that went into it is incredible but the end result is fantastic.

Bathtub Tom - the event is now so big that it is impossible to see everything. I only saw one Tabrant (for sale) but did see a Tatra. The Tatra was the later more squared off version rather than the older more rounded version that attended the other year. A great selection of vehicles of all sorts. I have already penciled in the last wednesday in August 2012!

As previously mentioned, it was a mammoth project-but it leaves me scratching my head. I can understand sneaking a modern engine, brakes, and suspension into an old car but isn't the interior half the point of a 'resto mod'? Fair play to the builder though, it's certainly unique!
