Ford Focus '56 TDCi 1.6 - Focus 1.6 TDCi DPF issue / post turbo replacement - phase_k

Hi,

My 56 plate Focus has just had the turbo replaced due to a knackered shaft which was causing it to burn lots of oil through the exhaust system.

Just before taking it in to get this work done the engine management light came on (I thought it was related to the engine running badly due to the oil being burnt)

Once the turbo was replaced the mechanic plugged it in and the computer gave the error code to show that the DPF needed to be regenerated, so he took it for a long drive to try and regenerate the DPF. This didn't work and it was running in limp mode.

He got advice that the DPF may be blocked due to the amount of oil that had been making its way into the exhaust system from the failed turbo, so soaked it overnight which he was advised should cure the problem. It didn't.

I have mentioned to him that I have read (on here amongst other places) that the Eloys fluid may need replenishing to allow the DPF to regenerate, he's going to look into that.

I'm just wondering if the DPF could be screwed due to the amount of oil that has gone through the exhaust? If this is the case then would the easist option be to replace the DPF? If so is the DPF part of the CAT and is this the correct part which should cure the problem EBAY LINK

Any advice greatfully received as we seem to be going in circles here...

Yes, DPFs will struggle with oil-don't forget, oil is designed to resist oxidation. The partially burned oil will be harder to oxidise than soot. I've heard conflicting reports about whether reverse flushing a dPF will clear it. Some people have reported success. Otherwise, that looks like a good price for a cat/DPF kit.
