Peugeot 308 1.6 petrol - Manual gearbox fault - Hazelnut

My father has a 2009 Peugeot 308. It has an intermittent gearbox fault in that it sticks in neutral and the gear lever cannot select gears. Switching the engine off then on again seems to clear it. Warners Peugeot, Tewkesbury could not find any fault when they had it in last week. Any ideas?

Sounds as though the clutch is not disengaging properly.

Thanks Peter. That's possible of course, but I'm sure I read somewhere that 308s have been known to suffer with a gear selection problem and that the gearbox has some form of electronic control. I wondered if that might explain how switching the engine off / on seems to clear the fault?

Sorry I miss read that as 306 don't know what gearbox a 308 has. You can check for gearbox drag by trying to engage reverse, if it crunches the clutch is not fully disengaging, it will also make it difficult to get out of gear.

I have my Peu 308 secaond hand car, I buy cause of budget loan, I already drive for 7months, unfortunately I having a stressed issue, what exactly when warning sign display “Gearbox Faulty” i need this answer clearly please..:,( if I send my car to a peugeot service center, as we do not know the exact problem and since this issue are many conplaint as well, either need new gearbox? Or maybe change the fluid or just an error system and need to update system but if I know exactly the problems then the service center is asking for an expensive charged. I need the right and transparent answer. Please help me. Before sending to service center.

Dealer or Peugeot specialist either way it needs plugged into Peugeot Planet diagnostics,

Peugeot's own diagnostics system and the gearbox ECU codes read.

Most other diagnostic systems are just not accurate.

So unless you have Peugeot specilist near you or an autobox specialist it's going to be the main dealer.

At this point who knows,

But P,P, doesnt just scan the engine ECU for fult codes it can do a "Global scan" that scans EVERY system on the vehicle.

Then can be used to activate various aspect of the system.

If the "Gearbox warning" is showing then there's a recoded fault in the gearbox ECU.

And it can be pulled out with P,P,

Provided the operator knows what they're doing.
