Having had an accident last year, I've been inundated with calls from multiple sources about like-for-like car hire and personal injury compensation - I guess someone was passing my information on - since all their costs, ie referal fees and failed claims have to be loaded on top of their successful claims it's no wonder that insurance premiums are rising at such an alarming rate.

It should be banned. The purpose of insurance is to return the wronged party to a similar position to which they were in prior to the accident. A significant minority of people are demanding to be put in a far better position.

What im surprised about is how this isnt bigger news, yes it was on Watchdog and yes its on alot of sites like this but im surprised its not main front page stuff. I mean, Police and health workers selling our details onto companies? How is this being swept under the carpet to the degree it is. Much lesser data protection scandals have been nationwide news. It also blows a big hole in the myth that its the young drivers causing premiums to go up, uninsured drivers making it go up, economic crisis, increased crime etc, the dirty secret (now not so secret) is that its the system itself doing it to itself and in the end benefitting nobody (presumably not even itself). I saw a case where a man received phonecalls encouraging him to make an injury claim for an accident where he wasnt in the car at the time, and if he had done so, some other insurance company wouldve had to of spent millions on lawyers to prove he wasnt in the car, a major waste of money and ultimatley is paid for by you, i and all of us.

I totally agree. I'm sick of hearing these multi-million pound companies bleating on about how they're losing so much money because of all these people making injury claims - when those same organisations are solely responsible for the whole sorry situation. It is patently obvious that telling everybody their premiums have risen because of other people's claims, will only ever bread a mentality that 'I may as well make a claim of my own then...' And with the ambulance chasers so readily happy to help, a nice four figure handout is only a few phone calls away.

Whilst I understand why you say this, you are wrong.

All these companies do is put the idea into peoples heads; they do not force them to lie & make up ficticious injuries.

The problem is the GBP who are in the main (in my experience), lying cheating thieving self-centred beings when the opportunity arises

Couldnt agree more, they are, and you'll never change that. So the only way to sort this is from the top down.
