Parking in Brighton - Ben 10

Anyone on here live in or go to Brighton to shop regularly?

If so, where do you park. I found out too late that the marina area is free, but I went to the centre of Brighton yesterday and parked up, what I thought was conveniently, in the shopping area. The "P" signs guided me to an NCP car park that was charging £5 an hour, £10 for 2-4 hours and £20 4-24 hours. An extortionate rate IMO.

As we parked up and got our bearings, I lost count of the numbers of cars that approached the barrier, read the tariff and unable to back up due to the one way approach, reluctantly enter muttering and using expletives as they came in.

So any locals who are in the know about where to park relatively cheaply in the future, in the centre of Brighton, would be welcome with any information.
