peugeot 106 1.5 diesel - What are these bolts called?, thanks. - liammcl

I've managed to strip 2 of these bolts...

i103.photobucket.com/albums/m147/liammcl_2006/2010...g

They are for connecting the camshaft bearing cap to the cylinder head block ,
on a peugeot 106 1.5 diesel v reg (2000)

Would anyone be good enough to tell me the name of them and where I could get some.

Many Thanks
Liam

Try a main agents they have exploded diagrams of all sections of the engine.

It's not easy to accurately judge the size from a photo but they do look like M10 x 1.5. Considering their application they're probably high tensile too. As has already been said, the best place would be a Peugeot dealer who would be able to look them up, and order them for you if they don't have them on the shelf.

If you've stripped them, the head may be damaged as well!

BTW,they're called "studs" not bolts.

Thanks jc2,

To be honest, I am tempted to get a long m8 bolt & cut the end off...

I'll ring Peugeot today and see what they say..

I suspect the thread may be different at each end of the stud. Regards Peter

Thanks Peter,

(btw , They do look the same tbh, same direction and size of thread)

I rang the main dealer but they do not sell the studs, seperately for the 106.

People have to buy the whole cylinder head !! ...which even he thought was a bit of overkill :o)

He found some from another engine which may do..they are £5 each ...

Just in passing, incase it helps anyone....

These are the lbs/ foot torque maximums for m8 (8mm) bolts.

Bolt size Low Grade Grade 8.8 Grade 10.9 Grade 12.9

8mm 8-12 17 24 29

(The Grade is stamped on the top of the nut)

I've been getting box standard bolts from B&Q and cutting the top of them to get a stud of the right length for my camshaft bearing caps.

The problem is that the camshaft bearing caps need to be tightened to 15lbs/ft & these B&Q nuts sheer at 8-12lbs/ft.

I'm going to try some exhaust manifold nuts (or a grade 10.9 nut from ebay)
instead since they have a higher torque rating.

I hope that saves someone time and threaded studs...

Cheers

Grade 12.9

Might be better to get some appropriately graded threaded rod and cut the necessary lengths off it. Probably easier to find and cut than generic bolts in the correct grade of steel.

Thanks TeeCee,

A mechanic passed on a tip on how to get the studs out of a car's engine,
so I retrieved 4 for £2, and all is good.

They torqued up fine first time.

I brought the 2 that had snapped at 12lbs/ft back to peugeout & got a £10 refund *result*

The tip was to put 2 bolts on the thread, tighten up & then undo the one near the base & the whole stud'll come out of te engine.

I think you mean 2 nuts, not 2 bolts>

Thanks Galileo,

I did indeed, 2 nuts.

It's a worry .... :o)
