engine is making a tapping/clicking sound and the engine management light has just come on...............any ideas what the problem is and how much it will cost?

Engine management light on could be any one of 1,000s of faults, literally. You'll need to get the fault codes read before anyone can diagnose the problem or estimate costs.

Vauxhall dealer will charge around £50, good independent about £20 - that's just to read the fault code(s) not fix the problem. You can buy DIY fault code readers.

i will check the oil later..............we only bought the car recently and where advised its had a service recently along with oil change

If you only bought it, take it back to the vendor to fix it.
