Vauxhall Vectra B I.8 2003 - Cruise Control System - wellman

I have a 53 Reg Vectra 1.8 bought new which to date has covered 45K miles. I have a problem with the cruise control which does not work, will not switch in. The problem appeared to occur at the same time as water entered the vehicle through the pollen filter and blew the heater resistor bank and stopped the vent fan working. I have repaired this. I can find no reference the cruise control system in the Haynes workshop manual. It has been suggested that the problem is a weak return spring with the clutch/brake pedal unit not returning to its full position. I have checked the pedals and all seems OK although I am unable to locate the return spring and it is not shown in the workshop manual.

Can anyone help with ideas to the problem?

Might be worth asking over on the Vauxhall Owners Network http://www.vauxhallownersnetwork.co.uk/

The cruise system certainly need electrical signals from both the brake & clutch pedals as operation of either will cancel the cruise.

Perhaps some of the water got into one of the switches or wiring.

Check them with a multi-meter, do the brake lights work.
