Skoda Fabia vRS Estate Mk2 - Gap Insurance Recommendations? - Buxton

I'd like to know if anyone has any feedback on third party Gap Insurance firms? I am interested in taking out Gap Insurance as I am buying a new car at the VAT off price through a broker, and since the order it's value has risen by £1135 to replace. The companies i'm considering at the moment are Surf and Protect and car2cover.co.uk. I'm looking for an underwritten replacement cover scheme from a reputable broker, does anyone have any experiences or recommendations?

Beware buying through the dealer as they get paid very high commissions and these are reflected in the price. Car2cover offer more options than most providers.

You might also look at Quota Marketing gap.quotamarketing.co.uk/ and Easygap easygap.co.uk/ both of which are normally competitive on price.

Most of the offers are fairly similar so it is a commodoty purchase and you should be shopping around and buying on price.

Quite. I got a big saving, compared with the dealer quote, for a return-to- invoice deal. Unfortunately the insurer, Hitachi Capital, no longer does this kind of business but outstanding policies have been taken over by another outfit.

However, do you really need it? (I concluded, too late, that I did not, having previously owned 25 cars without the problem arising.) And have you investigated the procedure for making a claim and the experience of others in making one? I have not, but, as there is some kind of trade-off involved between the Gap insurer and your non-Gap insurer, I can see the possibility of endless squabbles - it's what insurers do.

hi

my son had his civic type r car jacked after 2.5 years ownership. luckily he had taken out gap insurance with honda (ok probably paid over the odds should have gone 3rd party ins co) but he got his money (return to invoice price) no trouble.

so if your car is the type which might be tempting to others or just in case it is wrote off well worth the expence. remember the cost is a one off for a 3 year period usually.

It is definitely worth having if you buy a car on finance as the insurer will only return the book value whereas the loan settlement figure is likely to be signinficantly more, particularly in year one. I have had a case where a person (involved in the motor trade) was faced with a demand for an £8000 shortfall payable in 14 days because of the gap between the figures.

I was curious why the 'big' companies didn't seem to be more involved with it though? I would rather have taken out the insurance from Aviva or Barclays for instance than a smaller underwritten company but they seem to be out of the market at the moment.

Extremely rare, as the Gap polices are invariabley very explicit in what they do

it's what insurers do.

So, no they do not, you are incorrect.
