Pointless sign - Doc

This must rate as the most pointless 5 yds warning sign!

There is not a similar sign in the other direction.

The sad part is that some jobsworth in the local highways office authorised the spending of public money to put it there in the first place.

Recently our council highways people stopped a tree surgeon taking down a dangerous tree because they didn't have the necessary permits to close the road (a quiet suburban street) for a few hours.

The cost of the permits will now add £1200 to the householders bill!

Its those electronic ones which get me. Usually theres nothing on them.

Although i was on a motorway when England were playing Slovenia in South Africa and randomly one of the overhead signs said "GOAL!!!!"

I have a suspicion someone in an office somewhere got a disciplinary for that.

I agree that local authorities can be overly bureaucratic at times but the other side of the coin is the Prime Minister telling everyone that it's ok to have a street party and closing a road without permission.

Cameron will be all happy to slam red tape and bureaucracy until somebody does something he doesnt like then he'll back up so quick he'll need a beeping noise.

In the case of that stupid sign it was probably the result of a law suit when somebody crashed and claimed they werent warned. Thats usually the reason why Governments have to do such stupid things, because of stupid people.

Stupid public gets stupid Government, quite straight forward really.
