Is it just me , or have others noticed the proliferation of new Audis , mostly in white , and many of those convertibles ?

Is this a new cult ? I think they will look very dated very quickly. I just don't understand

Remember when everybody used to have black TV's? then it moved into silver ones at about the 2000s, now its back to black. Everything including cars was silver for ten years.

Only seven years ago, when buying a new car, I was told by the Audi dealer's business manager that white was a complete clunker and would reduce the car's ability to hold its value.

Looking at my new white Octavia, I hope and believe that that has changed! White is now said to be the new black. :)

Yes, but the new white is a much better white than the old white (seriously). It is a new type of white paint which looks clean and has a deep lustre rather than looking like an old fridge.

Y'know there are moment which make me question things which were supposedly so set in stone there is no reason to think otherwise. Such as the colour white being white.

That was one of them.

I've you've ever tried to colour match white paint you'll know there are several thousand shades of white.

Can remember my new Escort RS Turbo in mid 80s had to be white no other colours produced.Looked fantastic.

Escort RS Turbo- Ahhh happy days...when I used to drive like a nutter. Shame I had to sell it to buy my first house.

As for white Audi's, yes there is an A4 and two A5 in our car park as I write.

I do not know if its the same in the UK as Germany where white is one of the few colours that you do not have to pay extra for.

White mushrooms are fine-it's white elephants we need to be wary of.

Honestly! shades of colour indeed. I thought this was a motoring forum not a dulux blog.

Ooh! I do like the new Avensis in buttermilk eggshell with Magenta satinwood trim; but the accord looks very fetching in urban black gloss...

Yes, much the same in the UK, Andy - most offer a very few non-metallic colours, including white, and the rest are metallic and at extra cost. To be fair, a few hundred pounds on a car costing tens of thousands isn't a big deal.

It seems most makers offer 1 non metalic colour so as to keep the basic list price down then add metalic as an extra. Not all makers use white as basic colour and some makers use metalic white which is usually more expensive than the other metalic colours.

I deliberately paid attention to the subject as I walked through the local Sainsbury's car park this morning. That's as good a barometer of taste as anything. White is definitely the new silver
