Vauxhall 2001 Omega 2.2 dti manual saloon - engine management fault light - addewid

The light comes back on after one minute from start-up & goes out after about 5mins if on the throttle but then comes back on overrun & tick over [ throttle closed ].The problem happens all the time now. Any advice would be appreciated or good tech 2 supplier that works with my laptop for my 2.2dti as the one I purchased does not work & goes blank when I select 2.2dti Thanks & regards Colin Allen

Gendan VauxCheck should work fine with an Omega.

Tech2 is Opel/Vauxhall's inhouse diagnostic system costing several £1000s - if you're offered it cheap, it's bound to be a pirate copy or a "mickey-mouse" lookalike.

First check all of the vacuum pipes.

Most problems are vacuum related, especially on low revs, reading your description

this sounds like your problem, its also the cheapest fix..

The tiniest split or hole cause untold chaos !

Vacuum leaks throw up many unrelated codes.

If it is not one of the thin hoses worn through or popped off, check ALL of the rubber elbows.

then there are the solenoids to check and then the intake valve diaphragm !

My advice is to pay for a 'Smoke Test' (quite cheap) any vacuum leak will be immediately noticeable

It has taken hours of time and money for me to find this out.

2.0 DTi's and 2.2 DTi's are terrible for these problems !.

Good Luck.

EGR valves also go kaput, though they can be cleaned or even blanked off completely ! But quite expensive to replace.

Thanks for your tip about the vacuum tubes . you were dead right & found a hole in the tube under the front of the turbo & the problem was solved . I found an old vacuum gauge in my garage with some tubing & tee piece checked the reading at the egr valve & got only 10 but when reved up to 2000 the light went out at 15. Then checked vacuum pump & got 25. Then followed vacuum tubes around engine until I found the hole on the last primary tube which was rubbing on a hose band - badly routed by GM. Replaced damaged tubing & rerouted so it does not happen again . It took me about 3 hours to sort this afternoon but thamks for your tip it only cost me time & and the satisfaction of having no fault light. Thanks & regards Colin Allen

Well done to you !

Its great fixing these faults yourself. Not always difficult if you spend the time, and a huge saving to be made.

I would imagine the Vauxhall dealer would have fitted a new EGR valve for this fault and then a few hours labour to find the real cause.

I read about this type of thing all of the time on dedicated Vauxhall forums !

P.S. A smoke test would have found the hole in seconds. But if you like 'mucking about with cars' like me,its all good fun !

Good Luck.
