ford mondeo mk3 tdci - turbo - mr thicky

lots of white smoke on first starting fault code p2263 , flashing glow plug light ,after reset ok for rest of day .apart from that great motor .is my turbo about to expire?

ford mondeo mk3 tdci - turbo - Peter.N.

White smoke is generally an indication of unburnt fuel although common rail engines are a whole new ball game, I certainly wouldn't think it's anything to do with the turbo, bearing seal failure usually causes blue smoke as its oil being burnt and it would do it all the time.

thanks for that peter.I agree . I'm wandering if it is anything to do with the cold start mechanism as it seems temperature related.although the code is a boost pressure performance thing.I've cleaned out the egr valve checked the actuator arm and turbo pipes and cleaned the pressure sensor located just under the radiator (which I was quoted £165 quid for a new one!!!) Running out of ideas can see a new/recon. turbo approaching .anyone out there know what they cost or where to get one?

Tried doing a leakoff test on the injectors?

Tried doing a leakoff test on the injectors?

No a bit beyond me I' afraid what does it entail

I'm no expert myself, but here's a theory. Perhaps leakoff test isn't the correct term!

Since white smoke can be caused by unburnt fuel, one possible explanation may be that over night one or more injectors have a very slow leak of residual (extremely high) pressure in the fuel system. This leak drips into the cylinders after several hours the excess of diesel causes white smoke. A good garage should be able to test the injectors for leaks. Have a google around, think its reasonably common.

your theory was confirmed by an engineer who did a sniffer test for me.thanks for that ddr will have the injectors tested .jj
