renault clio dci expression - need help! - CR

New to forum hoping some1 can help. I bought a renault clio in sept 2010 from local garage started to have problems with cold starting since december several times had breakdown out which advised me to have it put on diagnostic machine did so today at renault dealership car has come back with allsorts of problems such as memorised egr , heater plugs inlet metering valve no 3 cyl combustion.which is gonna cost loads to be fixed and to top it all off the car was brought there in 2006 with over 102000 miles on clock, my mileage today is 86912 im in bits please can you tell me what i can do about this and if there is anything that can be done. only been driving for 2yrs and this is the third car that i have had feeling like i have no luck at all. will be grateful for any advice. I'm reluctant to pass judgement on other people's English, but you do discourage others from reading this by not having any punctuation or paragraphs.

If "the car was brought there in 2006 with over 102000 miles on clock, my mileage today is 86912" ....did you know it had been clocked?

I guess the first thing is to take a step back, have the faults cleared and see what returns. A stciky EGR valve is very common and some people have gpot away with cleaning them.

starting could be caused by an injector but you can do no harm by trying some injector cleaner first.

Milage will need some investigation, before you panick, was the 102000 miles recorded wrongly in the first place ? check the history. Then trace who sold it ? was it advertised with the mileage being correct when you bought it ? did you have it inspected ?

The guy at renault said that some of the wiring had been taken out (please forgive me as i cannot remember where he said from ) and that it had not been put back properly there was also corrosion, the mot on the car was done in april 2010 with 77754 miles on the clock, the previos owner on the V5 form had bought it in may 2010, i bought the car in sept 2010 and have not done that much driving in car to have that much faults with it!

Should i go back to renault garage to get some proof that the car had more mileage in 2006, iam considering going to trading standards wth this? What do you think?

so sorry for my punctuation but i was in such a state of shock yesterday i wanted to write down as much as i could remember, sorry about that.

No i did not know that the car had been clocked could i take it back to the garage i bought it from?

Hi Cr, It may pay to do some digging first, find out whether the report bof the mileage reading of 102000 a few years ago was in fact correct. It quite easy to put the mileage of the wrong car on iether MOT's or wervice documents ! ( I have done it myself ) especially if your busy and you ask someone else to shout the mileage.

There is a legal section on hear where you may get advice where to go next if the mileage has been clocked. Unfortunatley its very common ! more common than people think, even forged service histories to go with the clocked motor are common. Always check every date in a service book as some times the forgers put any old date down and it can quite often be a sunday or bank holiday ! always worth that extra check.

I guess your at a Renualt dealer at present ? with a car of that age a good indy or renault specialist may be the cheaper option

Hi thanks for getting back to me Im not with renault or any garage at the moment took the car there as breakdown said i needed to get it on the machine there, I was going to go back there today to see if they could give me a print out of that mileage at 2006 and to see if there was any faults with it then. The car has had 8 previous owners and the mot was passed last yr the last owner had bought it in may 2010 and I bought it in sept think owner before me had found out just like me the car was not what it seemed hey! Unfortunately my mot runs out in 2wks and renault told me he doesn't think it will pass this time as emissions are also faulty. Great!!

I had no servise history with the car when I bought it so I have no mileage checks at all, I just dont know what to do?

Great just went out to try car and guess what its not starting, have now called AA will wait to see what more news they have for me!!!! It's never ending......!

So it looks like it was clocked before the previous owner bought it, & with 8 previous owners I think you would be better off forgetting about the clocking.

Get it MOT'd ASAP at a garage that offers a free retest, or preferably at your local council MOT station.

If it fails you will have to get those problems fixed first, but at least you will have a legal roadworthy car.

If you leave until the MOT has expired you will be stuck between a rock & a hard place.

Oh yes mileage was clocked way before i bought it also found out that it has failed every mot since 2006 up until last yr, my mot is due in 2 wks time so its not looking good for me i think.

Thanks for your help i will take your advice and will take it to my council mot station least i will have a bit of time to get it sorted and as you said a legal roadworthy car.
