Peugeot Partner Combi - clutch slipping - dwrowley
I have a 2008 Partner Combi with 45000 miles
about 3 months ago while going up a slight hill in 4th I noticed the revs rise by 1000 and no speed increase but it went after 5 seconds and has not done it since until last week.
While I was travelling in traffic doing 50mph in 5th and the revs rose again for 5 seconds then I overtook a car same thing for 5 seconds then nothing since.
I have tried doing 40mph in 5th and flooring the throttle and it just pulls like normal.
The mpg varies from 42mpg to 47.5mpg with no real change in driving style
Does this mean the clutch is on the way out as I am going to Scotland (1200 mile round trip) in May and I want to get it sorted before
thanks
David

The clutch certainly seems to be slipping but its intermittent nature suggests it might possibly be cause by oil leaking on to it. If you let it slip it will wear quite rapidly, if you take your foot off when it starts or don't put it down so hard that it slips it could last thousands more miles. You will probably find that its slipping at around maximum torque, approximately 2000 rpm so just ease off a bit. I had the clutch on a Citroen XM doing this so I stopped letting it slip and did about another 10,000 miles before I sold it and it was still driving OK.

Hi there. check that there is "Free play" on the pedal. it could be a dry clutch release bearing guide sleeve or tight/ siezed cable, un-clip it at the gearbox end and see if you can push-pull it in and out .If you are the second owner it could have been a rough previous owner who has worn the clutch down

Is it worse when you top up with or change the oil. Some Pegeot engine are know for leaking oil past the crankshaft oil seal when oil is above a certain level.

Went for a ride this morning to test the clutch.

Started off in 4th with the handbrake full on applied more Gas and it stalled

tried going up hill in 4th at 50mph 2000 rpm and it just pulled away like normal

tried the 4th gear start off again and stalled again so it's not slipping at the moment

thanks for your replies

There is very little torque when you pull away because the revs are to low (or at least I hope they are) it's far more likely to slip when the engine is producing maximum torque at 2000 rpm or so.
