If you purchase the replacement you will have a better idea. They usually screw on to the rack which you have to hold the shaft so you do not strain the rack pinion gearing. Often the tie rod is locked onto the rack with a locking tab which you may have to replace. You may also need replacement bellow clips depending on what you have fitted. Have you check the other side for movement.
As the steering will need re aligning have you considered using you local garage to do this job.
