Wait till the summer, there's still a shortage following the second normal winter (which has left some people astounded that snow exists) and prices are far too high, be ready to snap up that elusive bargain when it appears, it will vanish just as quickly.

You could do worse than keep an eye on Rochford Tyres, they always have ongoing deals but have struggled themselves to get winter tyres this year, i emailed them in either Nov or Dec.

Alternatively keep an eye on Ebay and buy a used set of wheels and then bide your time for the correct tyres in the summer.

I've run Vred Wintracs and NRG2's and would recommend both, that's not to say that many others are not just as good.

First of all, those are not pure Winter tyres they're all season ones, so you don't need a set of extra wheels for 'em.

Secondly and more importantly, I paid 90 Euros each for mine, fitted, including VAT. Even allowing for the slight difference in size there and the odd percentage point in tax, 125 pounds sounds excessive. And then some.

Of the others, the Vredesteins are also all season. If you want a pure winter tyre, I'd be looking at the Goodyears or Michelins (had both in the past) and avoiding the Dunlops (have these on my current fleet car). I have no personal experience with the others listed, but a colleague tells me that the Pirellis wear as reputed (i.e. very quickly).
