Mondeo 1.8lx W reg 2000 - Temp gauge needle - Rob_Munro

Temp gauge needle going from normal to hot (red) and back again when travelling about an hour? Plenty of anti-freeze at correct mix and no leaks.Do i need a new thermostat?

More likely to need a new temperature sensor but the thermostat could possibly be the problem.

Does the fan kick in? The fan usually starts on these when the needle just about passes halfway in the "NORM" part.

I have only heard fan kick in when i have sat in traffic and the temp gauge needle has stayed in the norm zone.

I should maybe get the sensor done then? the garage i use tested car running engine for a while under pressure and it stayed in norm.I have noticed it moving very slightly on some shorter journeys but ends up back at the norm.
