be careful I was advised to have one properly fitted as you could have electrical problems if fitting cramp on electrical connections due to the tourans electrical circuits.....!!!

Just done it. To remove the bumper protector there are:

4 torx screws along bottom edge of the bumper

1 torx screw below each light cluster (removing these is easy - just look in user manual)

4 torx screws in each rear wheel arch, facing rear.

There is also an annoying push-fit expanding screw-thing in the wheel arch attaching the bumper protector to the rest of the trim. You need to pull out the centre of it, the rest can therefore be pulled out.

finally there is some kind of clip in the centre of the bumper, but you just pull it off.

Once under the protector you will see the metal bumper, which is simply screwed to the car. Towbars don't attach the same way (as there is downward force on them) but have two arms that slot into place (it's obvious) that are then held in place by two bolts (the more forward of which is a bit awkward because it's partially obscured by the wheel arch trim but you can get to it.

Can't comment on the electrics - haven't done that yet, but have ordered vehicle specific kit that can (allegedly) just be plugged in to the official wiring bus rather than anything that tries to 'fool' the electrics.....

Note the method of bumper attachment has now changed on the latest face lift model.
the sides are still attached with torx screws but the fiddly expanding clip has been replaced by a normal torx screw.
The torx screws behind the rear lights have been replaced by clips which have to be lifted carefully with a screwdriver.
After unclipping these the bumper is still retained at the side by another clip which is not visible.
Apply a steady pulling motion to the bumper at the same time carefully pull the side of the bumper outwards from the side of the car and the clip will release.
