Citroen Saxo - saxo 1.1 spi not starting after service/cambelt - RJ57AND

hi right come here as found some useful info in the past on these cars from here so decided to ask about this problem i have

right got a 1.1 with a suspect blown HG! anyway turned out to just be the roker cover vertually none exsistant around the back of the engine so oil was being p***ed out everywhere from it!

anyway as i would have had to do the cambelt anyway if id done hg i decided todo it anyway....some set the timing up as useual befoe i started locked off fly wheel and the head with a set of pins i had that fit perfectly (hd about 4 of these in past but not this engine)

anyway now it wont start! i have double checked the timing this morning just incase somthing was disturbed and could have moved! but nope everythng still lines up as it should!

so now im stuck? going to check basics tomorrow like spark is there and coil pack is getting power etc

is there anything anyone can reccommend to check/try again? im stumped as to what it could be! it ran fine before this!

i did unplug most of the sensors etc on the head as i was planning todo the HG as said iv double and tripple checked all these an they are all in right place again

cheers for any help

also could this be down to the dodgy ignition switch i know it has (relay came today to fix that)

asuming that the cam belt timing is correct and every plug you unplugged is in the correct position, have you checked to make sure a terminal hasnt moved up inside a plug ? have you washed the engine to get rid of the oil ?

The telecametric relay under the ECU about 14 pins, black or brown, later ones normally black are prone to just giving up !

>>temped to throw a new set of plugs and leads

Has it a distributor? Are you sure it's trying to fire on the compression stroke and not the exhaust. I've seen that happen a few times. It's very easy to get the distributor 180 degrees out.

no it has the older type coil pack mate

i did try and start it again before, but stil nothing!

im going to try a new set of leads etc thursday im sure it has to be an ignition problem though?

could it be down to the dodgy ignition switch i know it has? im going to get a new switch etc on thursday as theres a saxo in th local breaker so might aswell give it ago! and that will solve my fan heater problem at same time! id rather just have 2 separate keys for it than mess about with relays etc

luckly this is not my main car and just one i got for the mrs to lean in so im in no major hurry to get it back on the road but obv sooner the better

cheers for help so far on this guys
