BMW 1 Series Coupe - tyre replacement - simon60

Looking to change my tyres as after 11,000 miles(steady driving) they are wearing out! Currently on Pirelli RF, are these the most suitable or is there another make that offers a comfortable ride and is longer lasting?

My 335d is on Bridgestone RE050 RFTs, and so far the rears have done at least 23k. The fronts both managed 25k. However, the ride isn't "soft", and with RFTs you're unlikely to get that sort of ride because of the stiffr sidewalls (no matter what BMW say).

If yiu want comfort, you need to change to normal tyres.

IF you do change to "normal" tyres you will either need a repair kit or a spare tyre to comply wuth the motoring laws (I did and they're MUCH better)

Thank for that. I have been told I can't change to normal tyres as it will affect the suspension........... which will need to altered?!

That sounds like the usual BMW line - there are lots of people who've changed to normal tyres without problems. True, it may affect handling a bit, but not as much as BMW make out.

Note that if you go down this route, you'll need to tell your insurance co who might increase your premium because of the increased risk of high-speed punctures.

I changed to ordinary tyres on my 330coupe because i could no longer stand the hard ride and twitchiness. Direct line did not increase my premium. The claim that the suspension has to be changed is nonsense- I understand that in some markets such as France runflats are not fitted and it is well known that the team who designed the M3 would not hear of runflats on that car. I am told that the managing director of our local bmw dealership described runflats as "carp". I have not had a puncture which forced me to stop for about 13 years so will be happy to rely on a battery powered compressor.

There is no legal requirement to have a spare wheel or repair kit on board a car.

You don't have to have the spare/can thingy BUT to comply with the law you do.-anyway why risk a flat tyre that cannot be repaired?

and as for "advice" re changing the suspension - do you really think that BMW change suspension settings for es versus se models?
