If I am parked by the curb car in front, car behind and the road is clear if I start a manovour out and another vehicle arrives (turned into the road) who should stop?

Now we are in a car park, road behind is clear you start reversing car appears, who should stop?

In my view if the road was clear and you started your manouver you have entered the road and therefore if a vehicle then arrives it is up t o thenm to pass saftely or stop, especially if they turn into it from another road.

If your doing a manouevre that causes another vehicle to reduce speed or stop then you are, basically, in the wrong.

You stated "and another vehicle arrives (turned into the road) who should stop?".

So the road isn't clear then? Someone's turned up..and you are blocking it.

No quite so 'simples' really. If that were the case no-one would ever be able to turn a corner in case the vehicle behind had to slow down. Think of the other myriad manoeuvres that we or others perform every day when this is true also. I drive regularly on country/single carriageway roads, where simply being there causes other vehicles to slow down or stop (me included of course!).

So, there are degrees & exceptions. For the OP, I'd suggest, the safe option would be to let the other vehicle pass - although a courteous driver would slow if they had 'come upon' you suddenly & you were reasonably & safely carrying out your manoeuvre. Many drivers aren't courteous or patient of course, hence my advice about stopping & letting the other vehicle pass - a crash, whoever's fault is never any fun!

In both cases you should give way. I think you'll find that in any resulting collision, any insurance company would agree with me!

Common sense on both drivers would be my answer.

Thats how I approach it.

Better be red than dead.

Example I was pulling away from a kerb, checked road it was clear started to pull out checked again so I commited, then a mini comes zooming up while I was virtually clear and I was making sure I did not clip the edge of the car parked in front, squeezed though a tiny gap and I must have missed it by inch

Backing out of car parking spaces your often in blind spots, then cars appear that have turned in going onto the other side of the road and not stopping

I agree with you Doc if you just started and failed to see the car coming, but when the other vehicle was not there before hand then the other driver comes across the obstacle then it is up to them to pass safely or give way, I would think

The highway code says you should give way to large vehicles in such instance

What is a large vehicle?

Sorry for spelling mistakes spell checker does not work on this site

When I used to work for BP in our car park we always backed in first for parking.Same for car parking spaces if possible back in first.I do the same on my drive safer to move out bow first in my opinion.

I tend to agree with you regarding the mini.
