Triumph Herald - Heater control - Cris_on_the_gas

Anyone remember how the lever inside the car controls the heater. i have tried pulling it in and out but doesn't seem to make any difference to the heater. It always blows cold. Not sure if pulling lever out or in puts heater on, any one remember or have one that works. I have flushed through cooling system and no air locks etc.

Pulling the control out turns the heat on. Check that the cable is moving the valve - it's mounted on the heater box between the battery and master cylinders.

If the valve is moving, you probably need a new valve - widely obtainable but make sure you get the right one, 2 different heaters were used, and also the valves for different models can differ.

If you buy a new valve, make sure you get a new O ring seal with it - the old one will be shot.

One of the Heralds I had had a radiator blind that could be operated from the drivers' seat. I had retrofitted a temp gauge and found that in winter the engine ran cool even with the rad blind fully up if the heater fan was in operation. I used to use the blind to get the engine up to temp asap even in summer. Not unusual to take 20 to 30 miles to thoroughly warm up the engine

Thank you Vitesse6. The cable is in good order and is moving the valve on the heater box.

I will look out for a new valve
