Tried these good people, they were very helpful and professional but was told DOC cover not available on a van policy, whether private or commercial, comp or TPFT.Also tried the minibus route as vehicle left the factory in crew-bus spec, but same applied.

Maybe have to turn it into a camper-van;what`s that entail.....chucking a mattress in the back?!

Beginning to regret selling my car as that policy allowed me to drive a mates car he`s left for me to use,to keep the wheels rolling so-to-speak,whilst he`s abroad.Haven`t been able to contact him to become a named driver as he`s gone walkabout!

I use a little broker in Hove for my classic car and when you call them you get to speak to a real person who understands the insurance business, and not someone reading a computer script.

Thanks, tried them, again very helpful company but cannot offer DOC on policy.Tried loads of other brokers who all said it wasn`t possible to have DOC on a van policy even though it`s private and not commercial. Then someone suggested the Co-op and they said they do,but only offer Comp, not TPFT which I require to keep costs down.

Nobody will give you "drive other cars" cover on anything unless your core policy is comprehensive. You will not get DOC with any TPFT cover whether it is a car or a van.

Is that a new ruling??

I had been driving another car on the basic TPFT cover issued 8 months ago by AXA.I rang the brokers in London to double-check before doing so.I have the policy in front of me and it states under item no5:-

"5.Persons or classes of persons entitled to drive:

The Policyholder Only.

The Policyholder who with the consent of the owner may also drive a private motor car not belonging to him or hired to him under a hire purchase agreement."

What do you reckon?

Cannot be certain as insurance is based on a contact but in every case I have seen Drive Other Cars benefit only applies to the principal insured person (not a named driver) who takes out a comprehensive policy.

I have never seen the benefit given to someone who only has Third Party Fire and Theft Cover.
