I've got a pair of Autosocks, and I'm very happy with them.
I live on a steep hill and got fed up with having the car snowed in for days at a time, when the main roads are clear.
With the snow socks on my car easily gets up and down my road, even on wet, inch thick ice that's so slippery you can't stand on it.
I've yet to try them on deep snow, but on thick hard packed snow and ice, wet ice, or slippery slush they're amazing.
They're relatively easy to fit, but it's not a particually pleasant experience due to the cold, wet and having to reach behind the wheel into the wheel arch to stretch them over the wheel. They supply gloves to protect you but mine are already ripped to shreds.
Getting them off is easy, as they have straps you can use to pull them off.
The biggest issue is that they wear out quickly on tarmac, so you have to take them off when you reach clear roads.
