Perouda Nippa - What is Perouda Nippa based on? - wazza

My friend has a 1999 T reg Perouda Nippa. I believe it is 850cc. It has a rectangular air filter. What car is it based on? From my search i find that it is based on Diahatsu Mira. Can someone confirm this?

Are the mechanics/engine parts the same? It is just that i have difficulty sourcing parts where i live. There is no local perouda garage. However there is a local daihatsu garage.

thanks in advance for any replies

The name's Perodua. I think the Nippa is closest to the Daihatsu Cuore which followed the Domino and Mira. I remember having a Cuore as a courtesy car years ago: it was livelier than I expected but it was very flimsy and I wouldn't have liked to have a crash in one.

I would imagine that parts will get more difficult to come by, as Daihatsu have stopped selling new cars in the UK and Perodua sell very few.

What a shame if Daihatsu have pulled out the UK, they were what "city" cars should be - extremely light, fuel efficient and petrol powered with total and utter reliability. The UK buyers have shot themselves in the foot by ignoring the brand.

Years ago, I was working in Cyprus doing a telecoms project and I alsways used to get a Daihatsu Charade as a hire car. Considering how abused these cars had been by the time I got to them, and considering how poor the roads used to be in Cyprus in the 80's it amazed me how resilient these little cars were.

Looking in the engine bay was a horror story of dust dust and more dust, but the little 3 cyl lump soldiered on flawlesly.

I would guess that the 'Prodder' was loosley based on this car and I belive was also Britains cheapest new car at one point.
