Does any know how long it takes to fit a clutch in a mitsubishi galant (hrs)

The clutch is juddering quite badly when pulling away from junctions/lights etc and it's driving me mad the is a slight noise (whirring) whilst in 1st gear.

I took it to a clutch specialist in leeds and he said "it needs a new clutch & the gearbox sounds like it needs stripping down as well"I asked what was involved to have a look at the gearbox and he said £150 to take out gearbox £125 to strip + parts and £380 for the clutch.

Ouch £655 before parts I only paid £1800 for the car :(

Is £380 for a clutch fitted a fair price? And what is likely to make 1st gear whine ?Should I try some more garages 1st?

any help or ideas would be greatly apreciated

Just get a local garage to fit a complete clutch kit and renew the gearbox oil at the same time. If the box still whines let the fault develop then go to a gearbox specialist or buy a secondhand box. Chances are it will be fine for a good while yet.
