Wheelchair Accessible - Single Type Approval Cert - hillside

Our council is insisting that wheelchair accessible vehicles that are converted have a National or Single Type Approval Certificate.

I currently use second hand Doblos but can't find any with this certificate.

I think it may be because the certificates are relatively new.

Have read DVLA website and am a bit confused. Am I right in thinking that at some stage (2012?) all wheelchair accessible vehicles will need these certificates in which case those without them will have no resale value?

A simple explanation would help if anyone has one. Also, does anyone know if converted Doblos would pass the test?

All guidance welcome.

Are you talking about private or hire vehicles??

Hello hillside.

I would give motability a ring they should have the answer regarding this certificate.

Why wouldn't a converted Fiat Doblo not pass the test? The car is excellent for wheelchairs.

We use a wheelchair in a focus .

Regards.

Found this a question/answer to/from a council - dated 2008, so not a new thing.

Looks like either the manufacturer or installer should provide the certificate and if not then the owner would have to go through the SVA procedure (looks similar to that needed for home built cars and private imports).

If it is your vehicle then that should be the answer the installer should supply you with the certificate unless its a do it yourself job.Is that your case? or like the op is saying the vehicle is rented they have the certificate. If its a home made job i think the council would want to inspec the vehicle if it is safe.Correct me if i am wrong.
