Has anyone sold their car for cash at a dealer rather than trade in? I really wanted to sell privately, but no takers. I know I will lose a lot on a trade in. Probably might lose a little less on selling for cash? anyone got any experience?

Yes just recently sold my Subaru to Evans Halshaw. They have recently set up this service at selected dealers.

Go on their website input your details and it will give you a range of valuations subject to their appraisal on the day.

I received a fair price which i was happy with and certainly the dealer i dealt with was professional and good to deal with.

BACS transfer to your bank account.

Personally i cant be bothered with selling privately time wasters tyre kickers and p**s takers come out of the woodwork.

I had an email from Ashley Moon who is a site member and runs a service for sellers who want to sell to dealers. The site is called Car Arena and is at:

www.cararena.co.uk

I have to say I don't know any more than Ashley told me and looking around, but I would obviously welcome reports:

"Once logged in to the system the Dealers are notified of cars that are waiting for offers to purchase. These cars have been listed on the site free of charge by the general public and also other dealers. Car Arena allows the dealers to look at all the cars details prior to making an offer, this includes:- CAP Data & Values, DVLA data, Specifications, Mileage, trade or private etc... Once an offer has been made on the vehicle the Dealer is then able to follow that offer up directly with the seller.

"The benefit to the public is that they get more than one offer for their car (assuming it is desirable) and should be able to see from the multiple offers what a realistic price is for their car within the trade. The benefits for dealers that don't have the resources or the time to advertise to attract new stock is that they can pick and choose from our site exactly what vehicles they would like to make an offer on.

"We are currently advertising heavily on the major search engines and successfully attracting over 200+ cars a day to the site, this number will grow as our subscribing dealer list grows. Advertising this way ensures that there are always enough cars on the site for the dealers to buy, but also has to be enough dealers on the site to buy the cars, a bit of a chicken and egg situation that we have to manage carefully."

Pleased to hear from anyone who tries it.

Yes, I've done this.

Got the same price in cash as I'd been offered for trade in. No problems.
