I'm looking for a cheapish car with a bit of go for about a £1000.00
such as
Mk2 Golf or Jetta GTI
Saab 900 turbo
325
Any further suggestions ??

You missed out on a Jetta GT for £100 last week...
What about the cost of insurance, how much of a problem is that for you?
Autocar bought a Jag XJS for £500 and tried to get 150mph out of it, they got 128 before it died.
|
Then they bought another for less than that and got 149mph out of it before it ran out of runway (and almost ploughing into a set of parked new Fiestas).

What you suggested sounds good to me. You could also try an old Audi 80 quattro.

Toyota Supra 3.0
Rover 820 vitesse turbo
Ford Granada Scorpio 2.9 24v Cosworth
Vauxhall Senator 3.0
Plenty out there, it's just finding ones with some life left past their next MoT...

Add Audi 200 Turbo, Renault 25 Turbo to that list. Hard to find, but they'll be a lot less than £1,000. For a more sensible and durable choice, Audi 90 20V worth looking out for - 170 BHP, galvanised body and 20V engines never wear out.

I think I would have to agree with Dave Taxi Driver. A 3.0 twin turbo Toyota Supra would be a good 'un. Costly on fuel and insurance, but a big hoot anyway.
