Van Parking - julie page

I need some advice from you knoledgable people

live on a busy road, a bus stop opposite te house a junction 100 meters or so to the left. Paid for a drive a few years ago when I moved in off the road. A few neighbours have drives most have car parking from the rear but do noy use them. Because the road would get blocked if cars where parked on both sides of the road everyone parks on my side of the road

The person who lives opposite me has taken to parking his large transit van right on the edge of my drive so when pulling out I can not see traffic coming from the right. I edge out very very slowly but I had a near miss with a fast approching Astra today.

So wondering if an accidant should happen, who would be at fault?

Is it worth trying to talk to him and ask him if he could leave you more of a gap as his parking is making life difficult for you. You may get lucky and find him a reasonable bloke.

Agreed. Approach it along the lines .... I'm sure you don't appreciate but .... and a bit of flattery on the size of the van. You might be surprised.

Def avoid the row!

Most certainly it would be you at fault. Pulling out onto a road without checking its safe to do so? Very dangerous and could hurt or even worse kill someone.

Have a friendly chat with the van driver and just ask if he could park leaving a little more space for you as its so hard to pull out. Just ecause he drives a van doesn't mean he is going be some loon who will want to punch your lights out. Surprisingly most people in this world are quite reasonable and happy to help. He probably doesn't realise the problems it is causing you.

I do check but I just can't see! He started parking there six months or so ago when I asked he did move it, but he was parking on a grass verge and the council moved him and others off When I pointed out my troubles he just said he pays his tax and he can park anywhere

Perhaps you could park there instead?

I'd park there too!

My mate had a similar problem, big van, aggresive unreasonable owner. One night when the van was parked exactly where it should be, on the owners drive, someone filled his exhaust with builders foam and for good measure did his 7 series parked on the street too!

It took him a few days to find out what was wrong and whilst it didn't stop the problem it certainly reduced it 'cause the git went on to pave his front garden for extra parking.

Where we live I have noticed over the last few years more and more people taking their work vans home and hindering a lot of people with their inconsiderate parking antics. At the moment a van is parked near where we live partly blocking the foot path with a flat tyre for a few weeks now.I wonder if these people have a certain mindset stuff every body I do what I like.Problaby they have thats why they are agressive till they meet somebody who is bigger than them unfortenately.
