Vw Golf Mk 4 Diesel (2003) - VW Golf Mk 4 Electrical Problem - KenC

After a journey earlier I noticed my offside rear sidelight was not working, after removing it I discovered it was an R10W (it was blown) I replaced it with a R5W version until I could acquire a replacement bulb.

Whilst fitting the bulb I noticed that the boot courtesy/illumination lamp went out of its own accord.....then I discoverd the following electrical problems

1.remote central locking not working

2.electric windows not working

3.interior courtesy and reading lamps not working

4.lights on buzzer does not sound

I have had a quick look through the fuses (in the dark) could not see any blown fuses.

Please can anyone throw any light on what has happened ? is it possible I somehow caused a short circuit whilst removing the blown bulb ?

is there a soloution ?

Thank you all in anticipation

I guess it is possible that the wire to the boot light has shorted out while replacing the bulb.If I recall it is on the same right side.I think you need to re-check the fuses in daylight as a first step.hth

Thank you for the suggestion, In daylight I have found the cause .......yes you were correct a blown fuse.

Curiously it was only a 10amp one ( I was expecting one of the larger ones to be blown)

For the benefit of others I believe I caused this during the process of changing the rear offside sidelight bulbm, the following factors were present

1.the sidelights were on

2.I may have touched the case of the blown bulb up against the inside contacts of the boot courtesy light and or

3.I did not disconnect the light cluster circuit prioir to wriggling it out, it may have shorted against the painted bodywork

I have posted the exact same problem today on the site.

My electric sunroof would not work also. I will check fuses again but checked them last night and all appeared ok.

Did this fix all your problems.

Thanks.

Hi

10 amp fuse keeps blowing each time I replace it and now the alarm starts to go off but I can drive the car with the alarm going. Interior light, headlight on alarm, electric windows, central locking all don't work. Problem started when boot lock central stopped working

Any ideas
