Peugeot 306 1.9 D 2000 - Smoke problem - 5min turnover changed Glow plugs - steprog15

Every time i start the car up i turn the key and it just keeps turning over, smoke comes out of the exhaust, and after about 5 minutes of trying it finally comes back to life, with a big puff of smoke out the exhaust. I spent the best part of the day changing the glow plugs pressuming that that may be the only problem. however it seems that it hasn't solved the issue. these problems have only happened the pass week and i need help asap. any advice would be greatful.

If its bluey white then it may just be air! this could be due to a very small leak that is allowing the fuel to airate. Ifs its blue to black then its lots of unburnt fuel and may indicate that whilst you have fitted new plugs are they actually working ? ie is there a feed to them ?

yep it's definately a bluey/white smoke that's come out the exhaust. Im by no means a mechanic and changing the plugs is the 1st proper job that i've done. not sounding stupid but which would be the air intakes?? would it be from the air filter or air in the fuel ??

its possible its air leaking into the fuel pipes and pump whilst its parked hence the cranking for ages to get the fuel pressure back up. check connectipons around the fuel pipes & the fuel filter. It may not leak diesel out but could well leak air in. If your familiar with fuel flow the easy trick is to use a clear peice of fish tank plastic pipe at various places along the fuel lines & whilst its running if there is an air leak you will see the bubbles along the clear tube! normally check before & after the fuel filter but the plastic pipe has to be a perfect fit otherwise it too will leak air!
