Skoda Superb 2.0 Diesel 2005-6 - Making Bio Diesel - Martin Freye

I'm thinking of making Bio Diesel, see http://yorkshiregreenfuels.co.uk/index.asp

I have a spare garage and can get the used oil OK. If I do it according the their instructions, adding 15-20% Methanol and 0.08% Sodium Hydroxide ( Caustic Soda, ok be careful ) Will it work?

I can make up to 2500 Litres a year tax free, they say.

Advice is to start with 25% Normal diesel mix and work up to 100% io Diesel.

Will this work? Will it wreck the engine?

Any help gratefully received, Thanks, Martin Freye

You had better do your home work as that engine has a Tanden diesel pump and I am sure I have read acticles on Bio detroying the pump at great cost. Regards Peter

there is lots of info on this. BUYER BEWARE..

lots of articles that the modern diesel cant handle a large proportion of biodiesel which defeats the exercise somewhat-

do lot of research and maybe change your car.

You need to be running a old 405 or a very old VW with little or no worth all you will do is save a few pence on fuel and end up with a large bill for repairs. You will never self manufacture fuel of sufficient quality to run your car properly. We ran an old 405 estate for five years on old cafe oil but there is no way anybody in our family is going to put it in the new cars they all have now so we have complete fuel making equipment gathering dust.

Even on these older cars it can cause failure of the pump seals which will likely cost more to repair than you have saved.
