Mondeo Mk11 Zetec - Tyres loosing pressure - Whacko

Advice please. If the alloy wheels are stripped and re-painted will this stop the leaks ? (I've tried everything else).

Are they leaking at the rims. coat them with soapy water to detect the leak. If so them refurbing the alloys will fix this. Having them powder coated and oven cured is the beck finish. Regards Peter

Years ago I had a new car delivered and 2 of the 5 alloys wheels were leaking. It turned out to be porous castings, established by taking the wheels off and immersing them in water; air leaking out of invisible cracks in the wheel casting and nothing to do with rim/bead seating problems, in my case.

Armitage Shanks thanks for your reply. Yes the rim seals and valve seals seem ok but even the casting leaks are too small to make bubbles under water, I've bought 2 secondhand wheels and one of them also leaks. Next step, re-furbishing. PS Excuse the typo - it should, of course, been 'losing' pressure.

Thanks Peter.

Slime or OKO - works every time ! Great products and they seal puntures whilst there in there !

You'll only need half the recomended amount to seal porus wheels-very common problem.

And they dont break the bank, and they are DIY !

Good Luck.

uncanny - I posted about this problem getting on for 18 months ago. I never used slime because I was concerned that tyre fitters may take exception to it at a later stage. I stumbled across a fix just a couple of weeks ago
