Hoping someone out there can help me. I have a 97 R plate Fiesta (1.3 Endura Engine) and it has a mystery problem which I can't seem to fix. At low revs, such as slowing up to take a roundabout, the engine just cuts and dies. It starts again straight away, but there's no guarantee that the engine will stay running when you need it to. The problem seems to independant of temperature and can occur when the car is well warmed up. Also happens when you're sitting in neutral too. I've changed just about everything I can think of in there and it's been into get the diagostics checked, but come back with zip. I've scanned a few posts here and seen suggestions for similar issues, but has anyone had any results with this sort of a problem or got any ideas what it can be? The car has been into Fords recently and all the did was replace the clamp on a vacuum pipe claiming they could find nothing wrong with it... Hope someone can help or it's time for me to get a new car!
Thanks in advance :)

Two common problems with the endura engine which cause cutting out are idle speed control motor (replaced LOADS of them) but try cleaning it first. Secondly, have you had the valve clearances adjusted lately? Some variants of this engine had a revised, extra wide clearance on the exhaust valve of .5mm. Setting these engines to the other spec of .3mm causes stalling.

Hi - thanks for replying. The idle speed control was changed at the beginning of the year. A friend who works for Ford does the servicing and this was his suggestion. The old one was full of crud but it's been replaced fairly recently. Will ask for it to be checked though. Will also check up on the valve clearances... they were checked around the same time, but I'm not sure what they were set to.
Thanks for the info :)
